Miniature chest of drawers
17 ¼” H x 19 ¼” W x 10 ½” D
Tulip poplar, pigmented and dyed shellac, watercolor, salvaged brasses.
This miniature chest of drawers was built from rough lumber entirely using hand tools, including resawing and planing stock, dovetail joinery, and mouldings shaped using shop-made scratch stock. The form is based on an 18th-century English chest of drawers, and the decoration was inspired by 17th- and 18th-century faux tortoiseshell japanning and by furniture restorer and maker 'Jack Plane' of the Pegs and 'Tails website (pegsandtails.wordpress.com).
